Abstract
Abstract: Industrial buildings, with their distinctive architectural character and departure from traditional and classical forms, emerged as a significant phenomenon in both developed and developing countries following the Industrial Revolution. Over time, however, many of these structures have become abandoned, deteriorated, and functionally obsolete due to economic, social, and environmental changes. Nevertheless, their historical significance, architectural value, and contribution to cultural identity underscore the necessity of preserving them as an integral part of society’s cultural heritage for future generations. At the same time, restoring and regenerating these sites is essential to reintegrate them into contemporary urban life. In this context, and in response to the lack of practical guidelines for the restoration and regeneration of industrial heritage sites, the present study adopts a functional approach to identify and categorize effective intervention strategies. First, a qualitative analysis is conducted to examine the key solutions proposed by prominent theorists and scholars in the field. Subsequently, the study investigates and classifies interventions implemented in twelve internationally recognized industrial heritage projects using the Case - Based Reasoning (CBR) research method. The analysis is based on coding the identified strategies in SPSS software, examining the frequency of each code across the selected cases, and calculating their corresponding percentages. Based on the findings, the identified strategies are categorized into four groups according to their frequency of application in the studied projects: (1) frequently applied strategies, (2) strategies implemented in the majority of projects (half or more of the cases), (3) rarely applied strategies, and (4) neglected strategies.
