In hot-arid climates, educational buildings face significant challenges in maintaining thermal comfort and managing high energy consumption due to extended operational hours and high occupant density. In this context, leveraging passive strategies can serve as an effective approach to reduce reliance on mechanical systems. The present study aims to evaluate the energy performance of educational buildings through the integration of passive evaporative cooling systems and high-reflectance “cool roofs” in a hot-arid climate. The Kianmehr School in Yazd—one of Iran’s most prominent cities in this climatic zone—was selected as the case study. The research methodology is based on a descriptive-analytical approach. Initially, the climatic characteristics of Yazd and the key indicators affecting the cooling load of educational buildings were analyzed. Subsequently, the base-case building was modeled within an energy simulation environment to assess thermal performance and energy consumption across various scenarios. This process examined the impact of evaporative cooling systems—a low-energy indigenous solution—alongside the implementation of cool roofs with high solar reflectance. Finally, the synergistic performance of these two strategies was analyzed in comparison to the building’s base-case configuration. The results indicate that the integration of evaporative cooling systems and cool roofs significantly reduces the cooling load of educational buildings and enhances indoor thermal comfort. Furthermore, by minimizing solar heat gain through the roof and maximizing evaporative cooling efficiency, these strategies play a crucial role in reducing the annual energy consumption of the building. The findings of this research can serve as a practical guideline for the design and optimization of educational facilities in hot-arid regions.
